![]() I was given my first Suffolk sheep from Senator Eddie Ahrens of Turner, Oregon, for a 4-H project in 1957. I successfully showed that ewe and her lambs until 1963. I bred her as a yearling and she produced three sets of twins and three sets of triplets before her death at age eight.
In 1990, I purchased two Suffolk ewe lambs from Bob and Sunny Burns. These were followed by the purchase of a ram lamb in 1991 from the Burns flock that carried the Whispering Hills bloodlines and started upgrading the quality of my flock. I began introducing ewes from the Whispering Hills Farm in 1997. With Drs. Joseph and Susan Schallbergers pending retirement from Suffolk Sheep in 2000, I began purchasing Whispering Hills brood ewes and completed my purchases in 2001. Whispering Hills Suffolks were based on "Keeper" and "Keeper's Kopy" bloodlines aquired through Batie Suffolks (New Mexico) and Heupel Suffolks (California). Additional rams incorporated into Whispering Hills bloodlines through artificial insemination include "The Boz" and "Tomorrow". Whispering Hills maintained a linebreeding program for 23 years that was focused round their eminent studs "Chinook", "Manchester I", "Manchester II", and "Leeds". EWEnique Suffolks are free of genetic problems such as spider syndrome, unsound mouths, inverted eyelids, prolapses, and retained testicles. With a flock consisting of impeccable Suffolk bloodlines and characteristics to match and retirement from 31 years of teaching, I am ready to offer lambs for sale. |
